The images I create, and materials I use often have connections to the earth or the feminine form. I enjoy transforming rough textures from burlap, grasses, torn cardboard and such, into soothing, peaceful artifacts and images. My sense of belonging in the world occurs naturally as I flow into the artistic process, losing myself in the materials. These are 'magical moments' which sustain and nourish my soul. Yes, connecting me to the higher power, the Creator... how ironic... as the challenging world slips away so beauti-fly.
Much of my current artwork is painted on gesso treated cardboard. Thick applications of 'Portfolio' oil pastels create interesting textures on the surface of the cardboard which I then seal with 'Goldens' archival varnish. A frame of 'Rigid Wrap' plaster cloth, is created around the artwork, so it may be left as is, or placed in another more traditional frame.
